A Mirror of Nature at the MIA

Yikes!  It’s been a long time since I’ve posted!
There are posts in the works but this whole adjusting-back-to-normal-school thing is a tougher exercise in time management than I thought!  Boy do I wish I were back at camp outside Tarangire right now.  I think I’d savor getting dressed in a 104 degree F tent…
BUT I’m [...]

Advent Conspiracy

I am home!  And it is snowing outside.  It’s beautiful.  Welcome to the Christmas season!
I’m pretty overwhelmed right now, as I try to get back into life here.  I visited St. Olaf on Sunday night and nearly drowned in the amount of information I had to process immediately.  I was fully aware that time passes [...]

Tumefika Juu ya Mlima Kilimanjaro!

Well we made it! Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,985-ish meters), the Roof of Africa, was conquered by myself and three good girlfriends at 6am local time on November 28th, 2008. aka: during Thanksgiving dinner for all those in the United States.
We hiked for a total of 5 days through about 5 different ecological zones, [...]

here i go!

Hey all!
I’m writing from the Marangu Hotel in Moshi, Tanzania.  We have been briefed and are now “prepared” to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro tomorrow.  We will do a five day climb via the Marangu Route and will reach Uhuru peak about the time all you USAers are eating Thanksgiving dinner – if all goes well, of [...]

sometimes you don’t want to just sit and watch

I have just finished catching up on Chelsea’s India adventures and I’ve got to say, I’ve been shamed. Somehow, from the middle of nowhere India, she has managed to keep you all updated about the wonderful things she has done these past few months – and in glowing detail nonetheless! Her stories of [...]

Where the Hell is Matt? .com

This it totally random and has almost nothing to do with Tanzania but the internet was working quite quickly this afternoon and we were able to buffer the latest Where the Hell is Matt? video and watch it.  My girls here hadn’t heard of him.  As we were watching it, we noticed he danced in [...]

winter!

Hey! Sorry for the lack of blogging of late. Ironically, since I started this blog I’ve realized I have a lot to say that I don’t want all of cyber space to read and I’ve reverted back to journaling…
But I have something to say today:
It snowed! Not much, but it was a [...]

Old Australian Ways

a while ago, i found myself reading a poem to a couple international friends of mine and was amazed to hear their comments afterwards. they said it was calming; lilting; sweet. they mentioned that the english language – with its even tone – sounded wonderful in verse.
i do love to read poetry for [...]

MCP, MCAD and MIA

Last night my photography class went to the cities for various shows and a talk by Fazal Sheikh.
We started with a tour of the Minnesota Center for Photography (MCP) and time to view the McKnight show they have on display at the moment. It’s a show featuring four Twin Cities-based photographers who had been [...]
