I live on the top floor of my dorm and there is a small balcony just outside my window which we can’t technically go out on cause it’s against the rules (and reasonably dangerous considering its size). Likewise, students are not allowed on the roofs of the building. Our roof is slate and slanted at a pretty good angle so again, breaking this rule would actually be quite dangerous not to mention difficult.
There was a huge hailstorm last August during which golf and softball sized hail cracked much of the slate on the roof of the building I’m living in now. Consequently, we’ve had roofers working on fixing this all summer and the past month and a half of school. As they’ve been working things have fallen off the roof and onto our balcony where they lay forgotten by everyone except my roommate and I who get to see them every time we look out our window.
Today I looked out the window and saw – along with the usual assortment of slate chips, cement crumbs, and old nails – a rusy old bobby pin. Just lying there as if it wasn’t at all strange for it to have fallen from the 80-year-old roof of a college dorm. It made me wonder; what’s the story behind this bobby pin? What student, adventuring one day on the roof of her dorm (or at least in the eves) lost a bobby pin? Did she notice? How long ago did it happen? I know it’s just a bobby pin but it didn’t come from me or my roommate and it wasn’t there yesterday and no female workers have been above us this week so it’s just a little intriguing. Who can resist a little imagination every once in a while?

Nice. Both of these last two reflective posts are great. I feel like I can see what you write about.
